Description
STRONGSVILLE, OH — Fire hydrant maintenance began Monday in Strongsville.
Crews from the Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services department will inspect hydrants for damage, remove and check caps, clean and lubricate threaded outlets, check for adequate water pressure and will flow water to clear out debris and sediment accumulated over the past year.
There are approximately 3,500 fire hydrants in Strongsville, so the maintenance program will run through April and May and should conclude at the end of June, the city said. Signs will be placed at development entrances to warn residents before testing begins.
"Residents are reminded that if they encounter rusty or discolored water flowing from the home faucets following this maintenance, they should run only the cold water for a few minutes until it clears," the city said.
Strongsville residents are also asked to clear any obstructions around fire hydrants, including trees and shrubbery. Obscuring the location of the hydrant could cause delays when fighting a fire.
If a hydrant has been hit by a car, or is leaking, residents should contact the fire department for repairs.
