CONCORD, CA — The Concord City Council approved $1 million in funding toward a commercial rent relief program for local businesses, which will provide one-time grants of $10,000 to small businesses undergoing financial difficulties due to COVID-19. According to a news release, the program will provide rent relief for up to 95 small businesses in Concord. The council approved the grants last week. To be eligible, small businesses must have at least $10,000 in rent arrears, and both tenants and landlords are required to participate in the application. Retail businesses, restaurants, hair salons and barber shops, nail salons, day spas and fitness studios will be prioritized, the news release stated. "Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and an essential part of our community's economic recovery and long-term prosperity," said Mayor Tim McGallian in a news release. "While there are positive signs that we are turning a corner in the pandemic, there is still a long road ahead for many small businesses hit especially hard over the past year." Applications open beginning April 26 and close on May 14. The city will host a webinar to explain the application process on April 21. Click here to register.
