DETROIT — Four of Michigan's 10 deadliest roads are in Detroit, according to a recently released report by MoneyGeek, a personal finance technology company that identified the most deadly roads in the state based on fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2017-19. The report's analysis of 2,751 fatal crashes in Michigan during that timeframe found that four of the state's most deadly 5-mile road segments are in Detroit. Gratiot Avenue between E. Grand Boulevard to 7 Mile (11), I-75 between the I-96 and I-94 interchange (8), 7 Mile between Telegraph Road and the John C. Lodge Freeway (8) and East Davison Street between Conant Street and I-96 (8) were the four Detroit segments included on the list. The report also discovered that, without taking road length into account, 7 Mile Road was the most deadly road in the city with 16 deadly crashes reported between 2017-19. Half of those crashes took place in the 5 Mile street between I-75 and the I-96 and I-94 interchange. Also in the report, 35 percent of Detroit's deadly crashes involved drunken driving, according to the report. That is higher than the state average of 30 percent.
