Description

Calvin Tyler, Jr., at 78, gifted his almost-alma mater, Morgan State University in Baltimore, with $20 million for financial scholarships to be given to students in need of financial aid. Morgan State is Calvin's "almost" alma mater, as he had to drop out of the college some 60 years ago because his family couldn't afford the tuition. Even with him working, at the school just wasn't enough. Yet Calvin went on to be a great success, starting with UPS as a driver and working his way up to senior vice president for U.S. operations as well as a director. This isn't the first gift Calvin and his wife Tina made to the school. Before the current pledge, The Calvin and Tina Tyler Endowed Scholarship Fund had already helped 222 Morgan State students, providing 46 full scholarships and 176 partial scholarships over the past 15 years. The Fund represents the Tylers' profound belief in the value of education, and that it should not be limited to those who can afford it without help. Calvin found even the short time he was able to study at Morgan State served him in good stead over the years. For more Amazings, go to https://www.Facebook.com/MeetTheAmazings.
