Pastels however are also an art medium that is kind of like a cross between chalk and crayons. They are very finicky, expensive (for the good ones anyway), and a bit difficult to work with. Why do I use them? Well - I have discovered that pastels on wooden boards is a match made in heaven! You can just barely see the grain of the wood on the drawing and it adds interest, plus the pastels cling to wood really well.
