Description

The PICNIC research team at the New England College of Optometry is seeking participants for a pediatric longitudinal study titled: PICNIC: Preventing myopia: Investigating Contributing Factors to Nearsightedness In Children. The study investigates factors that predispose children to get myopia (nearsightedness). With this information we and others will be able to develop future strategies to prevent myopia. In order to be able to participate, children must be 6 to 8 years (under 9 years) of age at the first visit of the study and have normal vision (do not wear glasses, are not nearsighted and do not have other issues with their eyes). The study consists of a baseline visit to our lab, conveniently located on Beacon Street in the Back Bay, followed by six additional visits spaced out every six months. All procedures are non-invasive and safe for children. Parking is provided. In addition to a comprehensive eye exam at each visit, generous compensation for time and travel is provided plus gifts for the children. If your child develops myopia during the study period, vouchers for glasses are provided. Best of all: your child will learn about science and will be proud to contribute to the study. To find out more, go to: https://www.neco.edu/PICNIC or call . We are looking forward to hearing from you!
