Description
Looking to do something creative. You don’t have to be the best musician just authentic. After the backlash of the Reagan years tons of new bands and styles emerged. The time is right for something new to stand up to the crap that spewed during the last 4 years from the Oval Office, Fox News, and the people who drank the Kool Aid. The music could go many different ways depending on the right people. Start an Indie/ Shoegaze /Punk/ Band Looking to form an Indie/ Shoegaze / Punk Band. I mainly play guitar but have also dabbled in other stringed instruments: ukulele, bass, banjo, and mandolin. Looking to write some originals. Not looking to copy but am a fan of the 90s shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive but also new bands like what’s on the Shoegaze Collective Radio Show. My favorite current Shoegaze band is Slow Crush. Favorite current indie band is probably Snail Mail. I’m in the burbs but willing to go to the city. I’m in the city all the time and work off the expressway. The people I have been playing with are all in the city. With social distancing for now we could use tech to meet virtually. It might be a great time to work on things at home. If things clear up in the summer I should have a decent amount of free time. I am fully vaccinated. I have also played in some alternative grunge punk bands. Playing things like Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins Dinosaur Jr., Stereophonics, REM, Bad Religion, Fugazi, Minor Threat, Iron and Wine, Nirvana, the replacements Pearl Jam, The Cure. I’m not looking to play these bands, just to give a background. Shoegaze and the wall of sound is my true love now. I’m playing with some people but it is starting to lean towards classic rock. If playing covers I would rather do something unique: The Mountain Goats, Spoon, Silversun Pickups, The Jealous Sound, Fire in the Radio, etc. Influences: From Britpop to Shoegaze, indie, punk, ska, and even some gypsy jazz, Celtic and French and German music from my time living overseas Influences also come from what I read Kerouac and the Beats to the history and anthropology books that fascinate me. Such as: The Joy Formidable, Slow Crush, Snail Mail, Fire in the Radio, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr., Iron and Wine, Stereophonics, Neds Atomic Dustbin, The Pixies, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Sufjan Stevens, Bad Religion, Fugazi, Minor Threat, The Wonder Stuff, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Nirvana, Green Day, Blink 182, Poi Dog Pondering, Jaw Breaker, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, New Order, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Catherine Wheel, Dropkick Murphy’s, Silbermond, Tryo (French acoustic ska Caribbean type rhythm) to name a few.
