Five Points May 2021 Lifeguard Re-Certification Class Five Points Washington Aquatics Center 15+ Five Points Lifeguard Re-Certification Class May 23rd At Five Points Washington, we value pool safety above all else. No one wants their child to be hurt in the water. That's why we teach you how to enforce proper safety measures and prevent others from drowning through our American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses. Due to Covid and social distancing guidelines, the Red Cross stipulates: The class will be limited to 10 participants plus an instructor, with 11 total. Each participant will have the same partner for the entirety of the course, and the same small group for group saves and group CPR), the facility is open to members only but the pool space we use will be just for the class. The facility requires temperature checks for everyone who enters. For the CPR content in the classroom, the students will be spread out and have masks and gloves on. Unfortunately, the water portion will be difficult to spread 6 feet and have masks on since they will be submerging into water, so participants will just be exposed to their partner and small group. All students will have their own manikins and be given their own mask, and equipment will be cleaned routinely. We are taking precautions as designated by the Red Cross. If you have further questions about the safety precautions we are taking please email Brad Weaver at [email protected] to get a list of the Red Cross guidelines. Classes will most likely end before the posted times each day, but per the Red Cross we must post the maximum suggested run times. The instructor will keep the participants up to date on times. Pre-requisites (morning of the re-certification): Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Successfully complete a 300-yard continuous swim using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Failure to complete the pre-requisites will result in removal from the course. Class Format/Requirements: Participants will meet on the first day of class to perform the pre-requisite swim tests, and begin the course. Participants must be in attendance for the entire length of the course. In order to pass the course, participants must successfully demonstrate all land scenarios and in-water skills and complete both multiple-choice tests with a score of 80% or higher.
