FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A man who shot at police in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood early on Easter morning has been hospitalized after the cop he shot at fired back, according to local news reports.
Police officials said an officer responded to a SpotShotter call near Northwest 6th Avenue and 12th Street around 8:30 a.m. when a man with a handgun started shooting at the police car, according to a report from NBC-6 in Miami.
The Fort Lauderdale police officer fired back and hit the man, knocking him to the ground, the report stated. It's not known exactly how many shots were fired by the man and by the police officer, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The wounded man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
Police said a gun was found, and the man had ammunition on him, the Sun Sentinel reported.
