DePaul started the weekend with a doubleheader sweep of UConn. The 5-1 and 6-4 victories extended DePaul's winning streak to six. In the first game, DePaul got on the board in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Jessica Cothern doubled. Pinchrunner Julyana Gomez scored on Brooke Johnson's single. Maranda Gutierrez homered to make it 3-0. After UConn score done in the fifth, Kate Polucha walked, but was forced out on Cothern's fielder's choice. Johnson walked and Gutierrez doubled in both runs. To end the scoring. Natalie Halvorson allowed four hits, struck out four and walked none in five innings to improve her record to 4-3/ Krista Dalgarn pitched two innings without allowing a hit. In the second game, UConn jumped to a 4-0 off starter Dalgarn before DePaul scored in the third inning. Polucha singled before Jessica Cothern took a base. Johnson reached on a Husky error, scoring Polucha. Gutierrez was intentionally walked and Nicole Sullivan drew a two-out walk to bring Cothern homemaking it 4-2. In the fourth, Polucha tripled, Cothern doubled and Johnson doubled to tie the game. Gutierrez doubled and Gabby O'Riley singled to make it 6-4. Freshman pitcher Gomez tossed a one-hitter in 4.2 innings of relief to pick up her second win of the season. She also struck out six. DePaul completed a three game sweep of UConn with a 4-2 victory Saturday afternoon. The win extended DePaul's win streak to seven and brought their record to 14-7 (6-0 BIG EAST). UConn got on the board in the first with one run. DePaul came back with two in the second on a two run home run by O'Riley with Gutierrez on base. In the third, Scalzitti hit a solo shot to extend the lead to 3-1. UConn answered with a solo shot in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 3-2. The Blue Demons added one more in the bottom of the fifth. Grace Frazier singled. Hilger reached on a fielder's choice with Frazier safe at second. Scalzitti forced Frazier at third. Polucha singled with Hilger scoring all the way from second. Dalgarn improved to 8-1 on the season with the victory. In relief, she pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three hits, while striking out one. DePaul returns home to Cacciatore Stadium on Wednesday, April 7 for a non-conference game with Northern Illinois. That will be followed by a weekend series at Villanova.
