Police Officer Sustains Minor Injuries In Crash: Authorities

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead police officer was injured in a crash Sunday, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, the crash took place at 5:36 p.m. when a 21-year-old traveling east in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on Lincoln Street made a left to go north on Roanoke Avenue and turned in front of a police car that was traveling south on Roanoke Avenue. The police officer was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps with minor injuries, treated, and released, police said. The driver of the Chevrolet Cruz was treated at the scene for a minor injury and refused further medical attention, police said. Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage, police said.
