Description

Join us for Hirundo's Beyond the Backyard, a birding workshop for beginners. Have you ever wondered how to easily identify a bird you are looking at? Do birding field guides confuse rather than inform you? Are you curious about the fascinating world of birding but are unsure where to begin? Would you just like to know the difference in the terms "bird watcher" and "birder"? If you answered "yes" to any of the above, please join us on May 1 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Local bird guide and Hirundo volunteer Paul Markson will call on his 35+ years of bird watching experience to explain these and other subjects. Topics will include local bird habitats, steps for simple bird identification, demystifying field guides, understanding binoculars, birding “dos-and-don’ts” and etiquette, and many other bird- related subjects. Please be sure to bring something to take notes with, a birding field guide, and if possible a binocular. While this class is geared towards beginning birders, anyone attending will likely learn something new or helpful. It will be taught at an adult level, but any seriously motivated teen is welcome. After this course, you will be able to ID any bird you see, and be ready to travel beyond the backyard. Advanced registration is required.
