Cats that need flea preventative

Does anyone happen to have any extra flea preventive for cats they can spare to help me this Summer? I do not have anything left in my budget after my dogs eye removal surgery. It has been very difficult lately and I would be so grateful for any help. I dont want to use the hart stuff they sell at walmart because they have been known to cause many pet deaths. I also know that Dawn kills fleas but I can't wash them daily. If anyone can help, again, I would be so grateful!
