WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND KITTENS. PLEASE READ, SAVE THESE PHOTOS & SHARE FAR & WIDE. Kitten season is here, and we are getting several calls daily from people who found kittens. These graphics give good info on what to do, and how to age kittens. In addition, - DO Provide a safe space for the mom & family - DO Keep a close watch on mom & babies. When the babies are about 5 weeks old, the mom cat should bring them to the food. That's a great time to secure them all. - DO Provide plenty of food & fresh water daily for the mom, and the kittens when they are old enough. Nursing mothers need to eat 3 times the amount of regular cat. A couple cans of wet food & a bowl of dry each day is good. - DON'T Put the food & water right next to the nest. Put it a distance away, 12' or so, to keep predators away from the nest. - DON'T take the kittens away from the mother, unless you know 100% that she is not caring for them -DON'T take away the kittens & not fix the mother. Otherwise you will have another litter in about 2 months. - DO take mom & babies inside & foster if you can. Even a feral mom can be fostered with her babies. We can guide you. - DON'T give kittens or mom cat to anyone other than a verified rescue. If someone says they are with a rescue or adoption group, contact that adoption/rescue group & VERIFY. There are a lot of bad people out there looking for free cats & kittens for horrible purposes. - DO reach out to adoption/rescue groups for help. The #1 reason adoption groups may not be able to help is if they don't have enough fosters. If you are able to foster the family, an adoption group may give you rescue backing, meaning they would help with food & vet care, and help adopt out the cats later. - DO contact us for guidance on how to secure mom & babies, how to set up a crate for a feral mom, tips for trapping, tips for socializing feral kittens, low cost vets, and a list of local adoption groups.
