HOMETOWN, IL — A Hometown police officer died early Saturday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a car accident. James Kouski, 58, was a 34-year veteran of the Hometown Police Department. Kouski was investigating a DUI crash around 3 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Pulaski Road. Police said the officer was struck by a white sedan. Kouski was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The police department sent an emergency text alert to residents around 5 a.m. stating that traffic in both directions on Pulaski Road between 87th and 91st Streets. Charges are expected against the 0ther driver. Residents and police saluted the fallen office in a memorial procession later in the afternoon. Hometown police are being assisted in investigation by Illinois State People, Cook County Sheriff's Police, Oak Lawn and Evergreen police.
