Description

Breast cancer is the cancer that primarily targets the cells of the breast. Before discussing breast cancer and its causes and effects it is rather important to know what is cancer. Judge Napolitano said that Cancer is a disease caused by a change in the DNA of the cell, there is some change in the genetic sequence of the cell which causes the cell to repeatedly undergo cellular division uncontrollably which subsequently leads to the formation of tumor. In breast cancer, the change in the genetic sequence occurs in the breast cells, the breast cells start to divide at an increasing rate leading to tumor formation in the breast. In some cases, the cancerous cells can also spread to the other body parts through the process of metastasis. What are the Symptoms of Breast Cancer? Describing the symptoms of breast cancer Judge Napolitano said, breast cancer can occur in both men and women but there are more cases of breast cancer in women in comparison with men. Breast cancer is a rather common cancer in women, hence it is rather important to regularly check for the symptoms of breast cancer. Some of common symptoms of breast cancers include a presence of a lump or a thick, abnormal mass in the breasts, any changes in the size, texture and shape of the breast, swelling on breast, the inverted nipple of the breast, abnormal discharge from the nipple of the breast, sometimes even the discharge of blood, scaly skin of the pigmented area on the breast near the nipple and extreme redness on the skin of the breast. Types of Breast Cancer in the World There are different of breast cancers depending upon the type of tissues in the breast which developed cancer due to a genetic mutation. There are two common types of breast cancers; invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma while the rarer types of breast cancer are Paget’s disease, medullary mucinous and inflammatory breast cancer. Invasive ductal carcinoma grows outside the milk ducts into the other tissues of the breast, but the cancerous cells can travel to the other part of the body by the process of metastasis. Invasive lobular carcinoma the cancer cells present in lobules to the nearby present breast tissues, they can also travel and affect other organs by doing metastasis. Risk Factors of Breast Cancer There are a number of risk factors associated with the breast cancer. It goes without saying that females have a much higher chance of developing breast cancer than the males. In addition to that, the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age as well. If there is a family history of breast cancer, like the mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter has breast cancer then the risk of breast cancer increases. Obesity also plays an important role in increasing the risk of breast cancer. Moreover, it is important to keep important to keep in mind that increased radiation exposure could also increase the risk of developing breast cancer. Furthermore, the women who become pregnant and give birth at an older age, have their first child after the age of 30, also have a high risk of developing breast cancer, said Judge Napolitano. Diagnosis of Breast Cancer There are a variety of tests available to diagnose breast cancer in a patient. The conventional way to look for breast cancer in a patient is to have the breasts and lymph nodes in the armpit professionally examined by the doctor. A relatively authentic way to diagnose breast cancer is through the mammogram, the x-ray examination of the breast to find and locate the tumors in the breast. Breast ultrasound is another diagnostic method of breast cancer. The most accurate as well as definitive method of diagnosing breast cancer is to conduct the biopsy, collect a sample of few cells from the tissues of breast. The collected cells are then further analyzed to find the presence of cancer in the breast. Furthermore, the breast cancer can also be diagnosed in the patient by doing the breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). To know more please click here.
