Description

Go to our online silent auction beginning May 1, proceeds benefit kids facing homelessness in our community. Babies of Homelessness has been delivering basic needs (diapers, wipes, and formula) directly to families experiencing homelessness in King and Snohomish counties for four years. This auction supports families like Michaela’s, who, along with her husband and 20-month-old girl, live in permanent housing. But when Mikalynn was born, they were living in a van on the streets of Kirkland. The hospital was quick to ask whether they had a car seat when they were discharged but did not ask if they had a place to live. Happy about the birth of their beautiful girl, the new family returned to their van. It was hot during the summer, and Michaela, like any anxious new mother, quickly returned to the hospital with her daughter to check for heatstroke. Now the hospital realized their situation and threatened Michaela with a visit from Child Protective Services. Scared, Michaela turned to Babies of Homelessness for help. Michaela reminds us just how important your assistance is to real families struggling to provide their children with diapers and formula. In our region, there are more than 3,800 homeless families with children. Many families are working but cannot find affordable housing. Government programs do not pay for diapers, so the choice of putting gas in the car to get to work or buying diapers is a hard one. Although we have stepped up our outreach, delivering 120,000 diapers in 2020, we know our job is just beginning. To keep delivering the basics to Michaela and the hundreds of families like hers, we need your help. On behalf of the board, the staff, and the families we serve at Babies of Homelessness, we thank you very much for your time and consideration and wish you happy bidding!!
