STEAM - Sauna camping retreat 5/27-5/31 Back by popular demand, we will be doing another extended sauna camping trip. SOAK is canceled, so it’s time for STEAM! We’ve found a spectacular spot on the stunning rapids and rock pools of a river in southern Oregon. We have reserved the entire campgrounds to ourselves over 5 days, 4 nights covering Memorial Day weekend (5/27-5/31). The location is about 2.5h south of Portland, a little past Eugene. If you came to our 2020 Labor Day event this is the same spectacular location. They loved us and want us back! This is one of my favorite spots - a real hidden gem. The water is really warm - like swimming in bath water. There are about 100m of rock pools. The water level will be just right - perfect for spending an afternoon wading through the rock pools (wear sunscreen). We will warm up the sauna just after the rapids, allowing people to have the invigoration of floating or kayaking the rapids, and then hitting the sauna straight afterwards. The rock pools are great for fire spinning at night. People can sit next to the fire pit, grilling sausages, looking up at the milky way, or being hypnotized by reflections of the fire in the rock pools. We will have all our infrastructure, including Tiki torches for ambience, sauna decking, benches, canopy, etc. We will have fire safety setup for any fire spinners who wish to bring their props. If you are a musician then please bring your instruments, we can have a music jam around the fire pit, while enjoying the evening activities. Wildlife there is amazing. We’ve seen eagles, hawks, beavers, otters and deer along side of the river. This is an area where you could easily spend a few days and still want more. The river upstream is amazingly tranquil. We will arrange shuttling so people can float downstream. There is a sudden shelf at the very start of the rock pool area which creates some interesting back currents (it's weird to float upstream). I’ve also done some free diving there and found that’s where a lot of fish hang out (Sturgeon, Chinook, Steelhead, Bass, Trout). If you hold your breath long enough the fish come to check you out. Feel free to bring your fishing gear. There will be a sheltered kitchen area that we can use. We will set it up with lighting, propane stoves, and everything you need for a comfortable glamping experience. There are restrooms and hot showers available. The location is off cell grid (it can be incredibly liberating to be unreachable). Though if people need connection there is WiFi available. TV, pool table, games, a range of movies and other activities are also available in the lounge. If a single camper takes takes up a camp site area of a double tent, or a pair of campers take up a camp site area of 6+ tent then there will be an additional $20. Please invite your friends, and share tents if possible where appropriate. If we have above a certain threshold of participants then we may offer an additional discount/reimbursement for people conserving space by sharing tents. (no your body does not reach the same temperature as the sauna). This is an outdoors event, allowing people to spread out.
