STAMFORD, CT — Police arrested Ian Evans and charged him on a warrant with murder in connection to the homicide of Shernetta Dunmore, 35, which occurred in September 2020, police said. The Stamford Police Department Major Crimes Unit announced the arrest on Thursday. Evans, 28, is charged with murder. He is currently in Connecticut Department of Corrections custody for charges related to shooting a second victim during this same incident, police said. Investigators made the arrest at the Stamford courthouse and $2 million bail was set by a judge, police said. "This six month investigation was a methodical and collaborative effort between Stamford investigators and the Stamford State's Attorney Office, and it was supported by the State OCME, Division of Scientific Services and CSP," police said. "The Stamford Police Department has been in continual contact with the Dunmore family throughout this investigation and we once again offer our condolences," police said in a news release. "The Department is hopeful that today's arrest will provide them a sense of relief and move them closer to justice." Dunmore was struck by "numerous gunshots" and taken to Stamford Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said at the time of the shooting. The shooting occurred in the area of Dale Street and Ursula Place around 12:15 a.m. on September 20, 2020. Responding officers located Dunmore in a parking lot at the Ursula Place Housing Complex, police said.
