Pure Fentanyl, Crack Cocaine Seized In Norwalk Narcotics Arrest

NORWALK, CT — A 32-year-old Norwalk man, who police have been investigating for alleged drug dealing, was arrested in connection with the investigation on Tuesday, and authorities seized pure and packaged fentanyl, crack cocaine and other drugs in his possession, according to Norwalk police. Sylvester Edward, of Leuvine Street, also known by the street name "Gumzy," was taken into custody by members of the Norwalk police Special Services Division and the Bridgeport police Tactical Narcotics Team. At the time of his arrest, Edward had 58 bags of pure fentanyl, several bags of crack cocaine, and marijuana in his possession. He is accused of keeping a rental apartment on Hancock Avenue in Bridgeport solely for his drug dealing pursuits, police said, and authorities also raided that location and found the following: 235 folds of pure Fentanyl1 loose bag of pure Fentanyl 36.6 gramsLoose crack cocaine1 blender3 different fentanyl cutting agents (to mix into the fentanyl),Packaging material to package fentanyl for street sale40 various brands of marijuana ediblesLoose prescription pills2 laptops, one desk top computer and printerEquipment used to reproduce fraudulent credit cards and make fraudulent checksNumerous fake IDS with Edwards's picture on it were also recoveredNorwalk Police Lt. Marc Lepore, the Commanding Officer of Norwalk Police Department's Special Services Division, said that, "this is likely the largest amount of pure fentanyl that we have ever seized." Lepore also commended his investigative team members "for their tireless persistence," and thanked the Bridgeport Police Department's Tactical Narcotics Team for its collaborative efforts. "We have a strong partnership that has lasted for years," Lepore said. A year earlier, Norwalk police chased Edward but stopped the pursuit for safety reasons. At that time, the department obtained an arrest warrant for Edward, but authorities were not able to capture him until this week. According to Norwalk police, Edward is a seven-time convicted felon with 20 previous arrests dating back to 2007, including one conviction for escaping from law enforcement. His Connecticut driver's license has been suspended indefinitely. He is facing multiple narcotics charges, in addition to charges of interfering with police, reckless driving, and related violations, not just from Norwalk police, but also from Bridgeport police and Connecticut state police. He is free on bond on bail of more $900,000 and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
