Press release from the City of San Antonio: April 1, 2021 CONTACT: Ryder Billo [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (April 1, 2021) — Wednesday, after months of advocacy, Council finally made the right decision and unanimously approved a community-wide pilot vaccine registry for those 65 and up at a Special Council meeting. "I want to thank my Council colleagues, Councilwoman Sandoval and Viagran, for helping to call that special meeting. Since vaccine distribution began, we have heard from residents pleading for a reasonable process to enable people to obtain an appointment to get the COVID Vaccines. The inequality of first come first serve sign up and lottery-like system which in many cases required citizens to make hundreds and even thousands of phone calls and email requests was not effective or efficient. I have advocated for a vaccination registration process since January. We are excited that this registry/waitlist pilot for San Antonio residents is now initiated, and we can begin providing some surety and peace of mind to our citizens. The new registry will be built by our city Information Technology Services department (ITSD) in partnership with Health Access San Antonio (HASA) and will make registration much more accessible for our most vulnerable. This will enable the major vaccine providers a more efficient way of bringing people into their vaccine administration process. This is a huge step for the immunization of San Antonio and a pivot point in seeing an end to this pandemic," stated Councilman John Courage.
