Description
ELMHURST, IL — Two Elmhurst aldermen are asking for the city to consider whether to add signs to an intersection to make it safer.
Hillside Avenue angles to the west and joins Hawthorne Avenue at an intersection without any signs, which is considered uncontrolled. It is just south of St. Charles Road.
Over five years, the city has no record of any accidents at the intersection, according to a memo by Ward 5 aldermen Tina Park and Scott Levin.
However, several families living near the intersection have witnessed "near misses" while they are outside with their young children playing, the memo said.
The aldermen also said many York High School students walk on both Hawthorne and Hillside. Additionally, many families south of St. Charles drive through this intersection as they drop off and pick up their students to avoid the traffic bottleneck at York, the aldermen said.
Park and Levin are asking the city to determine if signs can improve the intersection's safety.
The City Council is set to vote on the request at its meeting Monday.
