An evening walk through the Hazelwood Greenway, led by Hazelwood Initiative in partnership with Outdoor Afro.
Outdoor Afro has become the nation’s leading, cutting edge network that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. The Pittsburgh chapter is one of the newest and will bring the group on its first exploration of the Hazelwood Greenway. *Note: Outdoor Afro celebrates Black leadership in nature, but you do not have to be Black to join the hike! ALL ARE WELCOME--including children.
The tour will be led by Tiffany, Director of Community Initiatives for Hazelwood Initiative. Meet the group at the top of the hill on Elizabeth Street, where the street ends and the forest begins. Bring water and trekking poles if you have them. Wear bug repellant and appropriate clothing for the weather. Boots and pants are recommended, but not required. Just keep in mind that the hill can get quite muddy and slippery if it has rained the night before.
We will walk up the hill to Calvary Cemetery and back, taking time to discuss the history of the site and any flora or fauna that interest us. The hike will be about 2 hours at a medium pace, with breaks, and a little over 2 miles in length.
