Description
Hi. I am a no-BS queer female in my late 40's with a kid and a career. I've been playing in bands for more than 30 years and have been in all of the bands and dealt with all of the drama. I spent 10 years in the LA alt/punk music scene and have had enough of all that.
Now I am looking to connect with kind and gentle like minded people with no illusions of world domination or major label interest, definitely no egos. Maybe we can get some local gigs or record an album in my home studio (or yours).
Bands that describe the kind of music I am interested in making right now: Luna, Electrelane, Spiritualized, Neu!, Stereolab, Galaxie 500, Velvet Underground, Brian Eno, John Cale, Rhys Chatham, Terry Riley, Glenn Branca. Currently I am interested in music that focuses more on soundscaping, texture, and painting in sound rather than figuring out if we are in mixolydian or phrygian mode. As Lou Reed said, 1 chord is fine. 2 is pushing it, 3 and you are into jazz. I love jazz, especially bebop and Mahavishnu-style fusion, but I don't want to make that kind of music now.
I play bass and drums. I am an accomplished drummer but can get along on the bass, especially with these genres I am looking to play. I am able to fumble around a guitar, keyboard, and trumpet. Ideally a collab would involve other multi-instrumentalists. I don't want to be a full time drummer in a band at this point. Ideally I'd be the bassist and maybe we'd swap instruments around a bit to keep things creative.
I'm pretty Covid-averse so for now I'd only want to meet up distanced and outside. I have a battery pack/inverter that can run a refrigerator for 2 days, so it can definitely run a few amps playing in the park on a sunny day. We'll all be able to be inside with eachother in a few months as the vaccine rolls out. I've had my vaccine but still being cautious.
Cheers.
