Description

The Antonio Nunn, Sr, Health Fair serves many purposes. The most important purpose is helping people live the healthiest lives possible. The central purpose of a community health fair is to help individuals be healthier by seeking to engage the public in conversation about common health issues and concerns. Healthcare can sometimes be confusing and overwhelming, but health fairs provide opportunities for community members to learn how to help their families stay healthy and safe. The Antonio Nunn, Sr. Foundation together with The Bridge Worship Center will be hosting “Detect, Protect, Correct” Health Fair which is FREE to the public on Saturday, May 22nd at The Marriott North Houston Hotel with a red ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. and the event will end at 4 p.m. The Antonio Nunn, Sr. Foundation welcomes attendees from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Today, more and more people are thinking about trying to stay healthy. Sometimes we have to deal with injuries or worn out joints, but for the most part, healthcare is about preserving good health through shared responsibility between physician and patient. Proactive information like blood pressure checks, hearing screenings, vision screenings, mental wellness, HIV Testing, Spinal screenings, Disability services, Gulf coast regional blood bank, nutritional displays, hand hygiene, how to deal with incontinence, are all part of health fair offerings. This health fair will provide basic health screenings at no cost. Simple health screenings such as blood pressure checks, glucose and cholesterol blood tests, body composition, vision and hearing tests, offer both positive health feedback and identify at risk individuals. Normal findings in basic screenings are the good part of healthcare, not a waste of time. The health fair provides the perfect venue to ask health-related questions. Specialized clinicians and physicians are available to answer questions and provide peace of mind or suggest the scheduling of specific follow-up care. Everyone has a health concern. The concern or suspicion may be large or small, but the burning question always is – ‘do I need to be seen by a physician?’ or ‘how do I know if I need to make an appointment, and with who?’ The health fair is a good place to get those questions answered.” Health fairs are a real community effort. Hundreds of volunteers donate their time and expertise to manage booths and run screening tests. Volunteers give up a Saturday to help others in the community live the healthiest lives possible. Successful health fairs inspire healthy lifestyle changes. Information that prompts a change in car seat size or installation, or motivates someone to stop smoking, leads to a healthier community for everyone. I hope the community takes advantage of the upcoming health fair. Together we can make some good strides toward a healthier community.
