NEW YORK CITY — A fundraiser set up for a once-missing Queens woman's family has shifted to paying for her funeral expenses after she was found dead under a pile of garbage in her home.
The GoFundMe "Let's Find Evelyn" set a new goal of $20,000 after the grim discovery of Evelyn Sakash's body this week.
Sakash, 66, was an Emmy-winning film production designer. She went missing in September, prompting an NYPD investigation and continued search by her family.
Her sister found her body as a cleaning crew went through her College Point home — Sakash was described as a "hoarder."
"Evelyn's sister Ellen Brown has retained the cleaning company that found her and must now plan Evelyn's funeral as well," the fundraiser states. "I would like to double the Go Fund Me fundraising goal to $20,000 to assist Ellen with these expenses, which will be large. Please consider making a donation in Evelyn's memory so we can support Ellen and remember her as the kind, loving, and generous friend and sister we live and will miss so."
The GoFundMe can be found here.
