BOSTON — The Red Sox are postponing Thursday's game, pushing back Opening Day to Friday. The first pitch against Baltimore was scheduled for 2:10 p.m. It'll be the same time Friday, which had been a scheduled off day. Boston is steeped in lingering rain, wind and cold temperatures. Friday is expected to still be in the low-to-mid 40s, but much sunnier. Thursday was supposed to be the first time the Red Sox played in front of fans at Fenway since Sept. 29, 2019. Fans will have to wait one more day. "The decision to postpone our first game of the season was not made lightly," Red Sox President Sam Kennedy said in a statement. "The built-in off day was created for just this purpose and tomorrow's forecast for sunshine also factored into our decision. We have been eager to have fans back at Fenway Park for the first time in 18 months and look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow under brighter and drier conditions." Tickets for Thursday's game will be honored Friday. Fenway Park will open to fans at 12:10 p.m., with pregame ceremonies beginning at 1:40. The game will be broadcast on NESN and WEEI-FM (93.7.)
