Collinwood Killings: Suspect Sentenced To Life In Prison

CLEVELAND — Treal White, 22, was found guilty of murdering a man in Cleveland's Collinwood neighborhood, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley announced Wednesday. "This senseless killing is yet another sad example of the gun violence that is plaguing our community," O'Malley said. "This individual has earned this prison sentence" On Sept. 21, 2019, White and two men were arguing on Kipling Avenue. Whit then went to his car, got a semi-automatic rifle and fired multiple shots before running off, court documents said. A 25-year-old man was hit five times by White's bullets, court documents said. He was hit in the head, chest, arms and foot. He was pronounced dead on Kipling Avenue by Cleveland EMS. A 27-year-old man was also hit by White's bullets, suffering two gunshot wounds in the gunfire, court documents said. He was treated for his injuries at a hospital. Cleveland police connected White to the shooting using DNA evidence, forensic ballistics and eyewitness accounts, prosecutors said. White's gun was found in a nearby garage and DNA evidence found on the gun and magazine matched to White, prosecutors said. Bullet casings found on Kipling Avenue matched the gun found in the garage, prosecutors added. On March 22, 2021, White wavied his right to a jury trial. On Monday, a Cuyahoga County judge found White guilty on two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises. On Wednesday, White was sentenced to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving 27 to 28 years.
