Press release from the City of Berkeley: March 31, 2021 Berkeley, California (Wednesday, March 31, 2021) - On March 22nd 2021, a victim reported to Berkeley PD receiving ongoing threatening messages from a person they recently ended a dating relationship with. The victim also reported they had heard a loud pop outside their home, and then saw the suspect had posted a picture of a gun on social media. The suspect then told a mutual friend he had fired as hot outside the victim's home, which the friend relayed to the victim. Berkeley PD Detective Division personnel collaborated with Patrol officers to work this case, and eventually located and arrested the suspect in the Berkeley hills. They also served a search warrant at the suspect's home and located an illegal firearm with no serial number (sometimes referred to as a "ghost gun"). On March 24th 2021, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged the suspect, a 19-year-old Vallejo resident, with multiple violations, including PC 646.9(a) – Stalking, PC 246.3(a) – Discharging afire arm with gross negligence, and felony and misdemeanor weapons violations.
