FLANDERS, NY — Two teenage paddle boarders were rescued after becoming stranded on the bay in Flanders Wednesday, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the call came in just before 5 p.m. regarding the teens "in distress" on Reeves Bay; the pair was 300 yards from the Long Neck Blvd. shore, police said.
Two Riverhead police officers got into a canoe and reached the paddle boarders before the Flanders Fire Department arrived with their boat, Southampton police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's marine units retrieved the paddle boarders from the water successfully, brought them home, and then requested Flanders Ambulance to check on the teens, police said.
