Responsibilities: Line locators will work under the direction of their company supervisor, performing work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas and reading and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to locate and protect the utility from being damaged. Some of these utilities include gas, electric, water, cable, sewer and more. Use a laptop or other devices to receive, document, and closeout excavation notices, both during normal and after hours Read and interpret utility maps/ prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel regarding underground facilities Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits Perform light excavation to expose buried utilities when necessary Provide accurate documentation related to all locates completed Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements Operate company vehicle in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours Requirements: High school diploma or GED Valid driver’s license Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings: Drug test, background check, and driving record Upon employment, subject to random drug testing in compliance with DOT guidelines Working Conditions and Hours: Outdoor work environment: up to 10-12 miles of walking on different terrains Driving company vehicle to and from work sites Normal working hours are daylight hours; limited work hours on weekends except for periodic on-call duty and mass workloads Knowledge and Abilities: Successfully complete the company’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests Develop a general knowledge of state and local damage prevention regulations Learn and apply safety measure relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters
