Description
Gulf Power states on their website that the base rate for residential service is 64 cents/day. They are charging 84 cents/day which is a 31% increase. This means that every month you pay $25 just for "overhead and administration" instead of $19. Both amounts are higher than many places around the country. For example, Xcel Energy manages to keep their base fee to $7.40 and Evergy does it for $7.25.
Not only do we pay the higher base fee, they also get us for 25% in taxes and franchise fees, so you pay another $6.25 in taxes on the higher base fee.
Everyone likes to complain about paying too much for energy. Here are two examples why you pay too much. Neither seems reasonable.
Look up "Public Service Commission" and let them know you're watching how they protect you.
