Description

WAUKESHA, WI—City of Waukesha Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of North East Avenue, according to a news release. Fire crews found a multi-family residence with a fire in an apartment on the second floor. Fire crews immediately entered the building and began extinguishing the fire. Most of the occupants were still in the building when fire crews arrived and were escorted out safely by fire crews. Despite all the hydrants in the area being hidden by snow drifts, the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of arrival. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Waukesha Police Department and Waukesha Metro Transit assisted with coordinating the sheltering of the residents and aiding with the street closure. "The Fire Department would like to remind all residents living in apartments to promptly activate the building fire alarm and evacuate when there is a suspected fire. Please "Get out and stay out" if there is any sign of fire. We also ask that property owners help keep our neighborhoods safe by removing snow from around fire hydrants to ensure they are visible and accessible," the release said.
