NEW BERLIN, WI—The School District of New Berlin is set to participate in the first-ever Give Education Day, according to a news release. The fundraising event is an initiative hosted by Alumni Nations to help support K-12 public schools across the country during a year in which districts have faced unique challenges brought on by COVID-19. The SDNB is one of only a few districts in southeastern Wisconsin - and perhaps even the entire state -to have not only started the school year open to five-day, in-person instruction, but also to have stayed open. "The last 12 months have been like no other in education," Superintendent Joe Garza said. "What we have accomplished during that time – thanks to the incredible support of our staff, students, families, School Board and community – is remarkable. Although this year has been a learning year for all of us, we feel the two instructional models we have in place are strong and rigorous, and that they've allowed us to continue to provide students with the college-, career- and life-readiness skills they need to be successful." Through the Give Education event, the district hopes to raise funds to recognize and reward teachers and support staff who have spent the past year going above and beyond for their students and families, the release said. "Our staff – our very own front line workers – have been most integral to our success," said Garza. "We simply could not have done this without them. We're hopeful that our current families, alumni and the New Berlin community consider a donation to the district in recognition of their extraordinary efforts this past year." The Give Education Day fundraising event runs through March 24. Donations can be made by visiting www.give-education.com under New Berlin School District.
