GREENDALE, WI —Police have been unable to identify or locate a woman who in January is reported to have attacked a pregnant Southridge Mall store employee in an incident that began with the customer complaining about poor tasting popcorn, multiple news outlets reported last week. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Jan. 16 at Treat Street inside the mall, located at 5300 S. 76th St. If the customer can be located, the employee would like to pursue charges of battery and disorderly conduct, the Journal Sentinel reported. According to the Journal Sentinel and police reports, the customer returned to the store and became loud and boisterous, complaining about poor tasting popcorn. Fox6 Milwaukee reported the woman asked to see a manager because the popcorn was too salty. According to Fox6 Milwaukee, an employee named Sophia Day, who is pregnant, confronted the woman and asked her to leave the store. But tension grew, and the customer said she would have to be physically removed. Day told the customer she was pregnant and would not be able to physically remove her. She once again asked the woman to leave. But Day said the woman spit in her face and threw punches at her mouth and chest. "I couldn't believe I got hit after telling her, 'look, I'm carrying an unborn child, please don't do that to me,'" Day told Fox6 Milwaukee. The Journal Sentinel said the customer, who was with a small child, then left the store. Police were called, and searched the mall, but were unable to find the suspect. Authorities said they were able to see the irate customer on mall surveillance video, and another customer took a cellphone photo of the woman from behind. But the police don't have any active suspects. Day told Fox6 Milwaukee she is still haunted by the incident. "It's traumatizing. It hurt along the way," Day said. "Mentally, financially, physically, I was completely destroyed by it." Read more at JSonline.com. Read more at Fox6now.com.
