RENTON, WA — Renton is seeking entry-level and lateral applicants to join the city's police department.
Those who meet the qualifications to apply must pass written and physical tests. The applicants with the highest scores will be scheduled for an oral interview. From there, each candidate will be subject to a thorough background check and an interview with the police chief. Background investigations include a polygraph test, psychological evaluations, a medical examination and drug screening.
New hires must complete additional training at the law enforcement academy in Burien and field training with Renton police.

Lateral applicants must have been employed on a full-time basis as a general authority, paid commissioned officer for a minimum of 12 of the last 36 months at the time of application.Applicants must also have successfully completed a basic police training academy and if they are from outside of the State of Washington, become certified by the Washington State Equivalency Academy within one year of employment.The city offers lateral candidates a $10,000 signing bonus, a 40-hour sick leave bank and a 40-hour personal leave bank.
