REDMOND, WA — The Redmond Police Department introduced its new K-9 team this week after the crimefighting duo completed 400 hours of training. K-9 Griff joins officer Dan McNamara on patrol, following the retirement of Redmond's first police dog. McNamara and Griff take the mantle from K-9 Remy, who recently retired and now patrols the home of his former partner, officer Dan Smith. Griff, a German Shepard, was born in Germany in late 2017 and began his police training in Rochester, Wash., according to the police department. He first joined the McNamara family in September and has spent the months since in intensive training, along with other King County canine recruits. The police department said Griff specializes in tracking and apprehension, and treasures playtime and chicken jerky off the clock. His partner, officer McNamara, has been in law enforcement for 25 years and previously served in the Navy. He arrived in Redmond in 2016. We're excited to introduce Redmond PD's newest K-9 Unit: Officer McNamara and K-9 Griff! The duo just completed their certification training and is out on the streets helping keep Redmond safe.
