PARKLAND, WA — One man is dead and another is behind bars after a shooting late Sunday night in the Parkland area. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, at around 11:47 p.m. their deputies received a call from a man who told them he had just shot someone in the 13400 block of C St S. in Parkland. Shortly after the first call, deputies got as second call from the victim's girlfriend. Deputies say when they arrived, the 30-year-old victim was quickly declared dead and the suspect was still on scene, so they took him into custody. He has since been booked into Pierce County Jail for Murder in the 2nd Degree. The sheriff's department is still trying to determine exactly what led up to the shooting, but say they believe the suspect had initiated contact by confronting the victim about him trespassing on a nearby property. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, the victim and his girlfriend had parked a van in an empty lot owned by the Dryer Masonic Center. The suspect had no known affiliation with the center. The two had then gotten into an argument which ended when the victim splashed the suspect with "a cup of liquid" at the same time he was shot. The victim did not have a gun in his possession at the time.
