Kirkland Courts Participate In Bench Warrant Removal Program

KIRKLAND, WA — Between April 1 and June 30, Kirkland Municipal Court is offering an easy way to resolve bench warrants and get a new court date. King County's "Back on Track" program offers amnesty for many warrants under $5,000, using a simple administrative process. For warrants valued above $5,000, or those involving no-contact orders, allegations of domestic violence, physical control DUI, reckless driving or first-degree negligent driving, cases will be referred to a judge for a decision. Kirkland joins courts from around the region participating in the temporary program. "With COVID-19 restrictions, we understand there has been a lot of confusion about how to access the court system, and many people with court dates have been understandably worried about their health and safety," said Mara Rozzano, a Bothell Municipal Court judge. "This program allows individuals with qualified warrants to have an outstanding arrest warrant removed and quickly get back into the court system." Defendants should reach out to the specific court where their warrant originated and can file requests to resolve them by phone, by e-mail or in writing. The court may need case numbers, personal identification and updated contact information. City officials encourage people to take advantage of the program before it expires at the end of June.
