Description

GIG HARBOR, WA — A major construction project in downtown Gig Harbor is expected to gum up traffic for quite some time. Gig Harbor's Stinson Avenue Overlay and Intersection Improvement Project is set to begin Monday. The project will add several needed improvements, like reconstructing the Grandview/Stinson intersection, a new roundabout at the Rosedale intersection, and adding a pavement overlay on Stinson between the two intersections. The city says once the work is done the road should be significantly safer for drivers and pedestrians, and will hopefully cut down on traffic backups for commuters. However, it's going to cause significant traffic backups while it's being built. Construction is expected to last through summer and Stinson Avenue will undergo several different closures during that time. The first closure, beginning Monday, will shut down Stinson Avenue southbound from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Here's a look from the city showing where the road will be closed, and a few possible detours: (City of Gig Harbor) The closure is expected to last about a month. City officials say they know the traffic will cause some headaches, but that residents and businesses near the closure will be kept accessible at all times.
