WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man was arrested after a fight involving a machete and a baseball bat, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The man, Jose Benjamin Lopez-Diaz, was arrested on March 6.
On Saturday evening, police responded to a report of an assault at the Marumsco Mobile Home Park on Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge. There, a 26-year-old victim reported to police that he was assaulted after an argument escalated, according to police reports.
The argument involved the victim, Lopez-Diaz, and a third unnamed acquaintance. As the argument escalated, Lopez-Diaz retrieved a machete and began to strike the victim repeatedly, police said.
The third acquaintance then intervened and attempted to separate the two. The acquaintance struck Lopez-Diaz with a baseball bat and successfully separated the two men, according to authorities.
Lopez-Diaz and the victim were taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for injuries they suffered in the dispute. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Lopez-Diaz was arrested when he was released from the hospital.
Lopez-Diaz is charged with one count of malicious wounding. He is being held without bond, and his court date is scheduled for April 1.
