RESTON, VA — Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau of the Fairfax County Police Department identified 40-year-old Santos Antonio Trejo Lemus, 40, of Reston as the victim of Thursday night's fatal shooting on Winterthur Court, according to a police release.
Police responded around 5:28 p.m., to 2200 block of Winterthur Court in Reston for the report of gunshots. They found Trejo Lemus in the entranceway of an apartment building, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene by rescue personnel.
Trejo Lemus was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will determine the manner and cause of his death.
A woman also received non-life-threatening injuries at the scene, according to police. Detectives are working to determine if those injuries were caused by building materials or shrapnel caused by the gunfire.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives say they believe Trejo Lemus was outside the building when a man started shooting at him. They are working to determine if the man left on foot or by car.
This is the third homicide in Fairfax County this year.
