Oakton House Fire Causes $137K In Damage, No Injuries

OAKTON, VA — A house fire in Oakton early Thursday morning caused about $137,000 in damage, according to the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department. No injuries were reported among the home's occupants or firefighters who responded to the fire, the department said. At about 5:45 a.m., Fairfax County fire units were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 9900 block of Vale Road in the Oakton area. Fire units arrived on the scene of a two-story, single-family home with smoke coming from the garage. Three people home at the time of the fire were asleep when their smoke alarm sounded. They saw smoke coming from the attached garage and safely evacuated the house, according to the fire department. When they arrived at the house, Fairfax County fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was a malfunction within a refrigerator in the garage. The three occupants of the home were displaced because of the fire. Red Cross assistance was not needed. The damage total includes the value of one vehicle that was stored in the garage, the fire department said.
