MANASSAS, VA — Rescuers seized 24 Yorkies after a fire at a residence in Manassas on Friday morning. One woman was taken to the hospital with minor burn injuries, according to a news release from the City of Manassas. Shortly before 8 a.m. responders rescued a man who was standing outside a second-story window to escape the fire. The home is located in the 9000 block of Byrd Drive. The fire was quickly extinguished, according to a news release. Authorities did not say whether the man suffered any injuries. A female resident of the home was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor burns she received while trying to put out the fire with buckets of water. At the residence, officials discovered 24 Yorkies. The dogs were seized by Manassas City Animal Control officers, pending an investigation. In the city of Manassas, it is unlawful to keep more than four dogs in a single household if they are more than four months old. The Manassas fire marshal said the fire started after an electrical outlet was covered in bedding material and placed against the damaged plug of an air conditioning unit. The fire damage is estimated at about $2,000.
