LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Part of Route 9 in Loudoun County will reopen to commuters at the end of March. The ReThink9 traffic project in Hillsboro will open the highway on a limited basis, starting on March 30, according to an announcement from the town. The project is opening ahead of schedule, and will not require a 30-day full road closure that the town had originally planned. Route 9, also known as Charles Town Pike in Hillsboro, will allow limited two-way traffic as the project enters its final utility phase. Roger Vance is the mayor of Hillsboro and the project manager for ReThink9. "We have made outstanding progress," he said in a news release. "we are able to forego an anticipated 30-day full closure this spring and are preparing for limited two-way traffic to begin within two weeks." Vance noted that during the project's utility phase, traffic will be permitted during weekends and common commuting times. The road will be closed to protect worker's during the day on weekdays. The Route 9 in Hillsboro will be open to two-way traffic all day on Saturdays and Sundays. The road will also be open after 2 p.m. on Fridays, after 6 p.m. on other days of the week, and before 9 a.m. every day. The work zone will still shut down the road between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Monday until Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. "The vast majority of weekday commuters will now have two-way, morning and evening access through the work zone," Mayor Vance said. "And, as we enter the tourism season, we are extremely pleased that visitors to the Hillsboro's area wineries, breweries, restaurants and attractions will have 24-hour, two-way access through town on weekends, beginning each Friday at 2 p.m." The Charles Town Pike portion of the ReThink9 project is expected to be finished in May, according to a news release. Other parts of the project, including a new postal kiosk and the extensions of water and sewer mains, will continue.
