Description
I want to start off by saying I love my dog. Unfortunately, I'm going through a divorce and due to my living situation he needs to be rehomed. Oakie, is 5 years old, mix of Great Pyrenees and St Bernard. He weighs between 65-70lbs and stand about 3 1/2ft tall. Great Pyrenees are a very unique breed. Please do your homework and read thoroughly before messaging me. Breed Behavior Summary: The Great Pyrenees is a capable and imposing guardian. This breed is devoted to its family and somewhat wary of strangers—human or canine. When not provoked, the breed is calm, well-mannered, and somewhat serious. While very gentle with family and children, the Great Pyrenees has an independent, somewhat stubborn, nature. Because they are wanderers, they should be kept on-leash. As a guardian dog, the Great Pyrenees is a natural barker. Oakie exhibits most of the traits above specifically he is stubborn. He knows many tricks and commands but begrudgingly goes along with it rather then obeying your every order. Oakie will roam, he must be fenced and on a leash at all time when on walks. Behavior Issues: Oakie is a very sweet dog, who loves cuddles and will happily sit at your feet for hours on end. That being said he also has some behavior issues which will make him not a good fit for inexperienced dog owners. Food aggression, while Oakie primarily eats dry food and is not aggressive over it, He will become aggressive for human food that he really wants. Example: If you drop a chicken bone on the ground, and he gets to it, he will become aggressive if you try to take it away from him. Oakie is ok with other animals, but is easily excited by them and will need time to adjust to another dog/cat in the house. Oakie responds very poorly to aggression. If he feels threatened or thinks you are going to hurt him, he will bite or nip at you. I have never seen Oakie be aggressive without first being provoked. I've been bit before by him, and while i've never hit him intentionally he does get aggressive when for example he's in pain from an ear infection and I'm trying to clean it or trim his nails. Oakie comes with, leashes, food and water bowl, harness and hair brush. Up to date on shots and is chipped, neutered. Homing fee is $150. This dog requires an experienced dog owner and a lot of patience. He is primarily an indoor dog and spends about 3-6 hours outside a day. He will want to be near his family at all times and will need to sleep indoors. Potty trained. Knows commands: sit, lay, stay, and shake, will respond to his name. (will only do anything of these things if he feels like it or is being motivated by food) - Very stubborn.
