HERNDON, VA — On Friday, Herndon Chief of Police Maggie A. DeBoard joined 160 female law enforcement leaders in Virginia for the first Women in Law Enforcement Leadership Summit in Richmond. The women's only event offered a half day of training for female law enforcement officers (LEOS). Topics included how to build a resume, where to devote time and effort to be competitive in order to achieve command level leadership, and how to handle professional challenges and roadblocks. "What an honor to present these strong, outstanding Virginia law enforcement leaders on Friday, both active and retired chiefs and deputy chief, at our first Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Women in Law Enforcement Leadership Summit," DeBoard said, according to a post on the Herndon Police Department's Twitter account. "The VACP recognized the need to connect, encourage, and mentor our women LEOS across the state and took its first step in this commitment by bringing together 160 female officers for this presentation and panel discussion. It is our sincere hope that many will develop the desire to be future leaders within their agencies." DeBoard is the current president of the VACP Board.
