Herndon's 'March Into Parks' Offers Guide To Outdoor Enjoyment

HERNDON, VA — The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department has organized several "March Into Parks" events this month to get people outside to enjoy the town's many parks and trails. The town has developed several physically distanced activities to help residents explore Herndon, which has 11 parks and three trails. According to town data, every home in Herndon is no more than a quarter-mile from a town park. The town is encouraging residents to visit a town park or trail they have not explored. Another challenge is for residents to visit two parks or two playgrounds and one trail in a single day without driving a car. Other March Into Parks ideas include starting at Trailside Park, walk or bike on the W&OD Trail, and finish at Bready Park, or take a photo with the purple dinosaur at Harding Park and share on social media using the hashtag #marchintoparks. On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, residents and visitors are invited to search for the shamrocks in all sizes that will be placed in Bready, Haley Smith, Trailside and Chandon Parks. During the week of March 22-28, residents are invited to make a bird feeder at Spring Street Park. The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department will provide kits to make the bird feeders.
