STAFFORD, VA — A new dog will join the Stafford County Sheriff's Office next month, and she needs a name. The dog, a bloodhound, will help locate suspects and missing people, according to a post on the Stafford County Sheriff's Facebook page. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office encouraged residents to post name suggestions on their Facebook page. The sheriff's office will announce finalists for the name on Friday. The dog will be nine weeks old when she joins the police force at the end of March, according to the sheriff's office. Then, she will join an experienced bloodhound trainer for eight to ten months of training as she learns the ropes. After her training, the bloodhound will help track and locate missing people, including children and people with cognitive disorders, the sheriff's office said. The dog will also be able to track suspects. This dog will be the Stafford County Sheriff's first bloodhound. A police chief in South Carolina donated the dog to the department.
