SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — The Spotsylvania County school system is one of the top employers in the country, according to a survey by Forbes magazine. The school district is one of a thousand employers that made the final list. Forbes partnered with Statista, a research company, to survey 50,000 Americans who worked for companies with at least 1,000 employees. The survey measured a participant's willingness to recommend their employer to a friend or family member. Spotsylvania County Public Schools was one of six public school districts to qualify for the list of best employers in the midsized category. Dr. Stephen Scott Baker is the superintendent for Spotsylvania County Public Schools. "This is the second time we have received recognition in the Forbes best employer rankings and we are proud to be recognized among such distinguished organizations," Dr. Baker said in a new release. "While we are pleased to receive this additional recognition as a school division, we hope that it further shines a spotlight on the inspiring and dedicated SCPS staff who tirelessly serve our students each and every day." "Our business is about people," said Dawn Shelley, who is the school board chair. "The fact that we continue to be recognized as a top employer shows how committed the school board and leaders of Spotsylvania County Public Schools are to our staff in making sure that we provide a collaborative and supportive work environment." Spotsylvania County Public Schools were the only school district in Virginia to be honored in Forbes' employer rankings. Last year, Forbes ranked the Spotsylvania school district as the fourth best employer among Virginia public schools. Susan Spears is the president of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. "This Forbes Best Midsize Employer designation is a reflection of Spotsylvania County Public Schools' commitment to excellence for their staff and students," she said in a news release. "SCPS's strong efforts build better communities and better jobs for Spotsylvania and the greater Fredericksburg Region."
